Recording officials should record the names, numbers and results of athlete’s events.
Recording Times
Times should be rounded upwards to the nearest 10th of a second and recorded to 1 decimal place.
Recording Distances and Heights
Long jump, triple jump, shotput, discuss and javelin results are recorded in the same way. Each athlete will have a row on the event record sheet, and one column for each of their attempts. The distance recorded for each of their attempts is recorded in the appropriate cell. If an athlete records a foul, a crossed is entered into the cell. If an athlete passes an attempt a dash is entered. If an athlete successfully clears a height, a circle is centre.
Athlete | 1.00m | 1.10m | 1.20m | 1.30m | Result | Position |
A Smith | O | O | X X X | X | ||
J Bloggs | X O | X X O | XXX | 1.10m | 2 | |
R Jones | – | X O | X X O | X X X | 1.20m | 1 |
An athlete’s event is over if they have 3 consecutive failures. The highest height the athlete has cleared is then recorded.
At the end of the competition, the athletes results are ranked from heightens to lowest to determine their final position. If two athletes have the same best height, a count back is conducted. Whichever athlete has the least number of attempts at the last successful height is ranked higher. If athletes have the same number of attempts, the total number of misses are counted. If that does not break the tie, the tie remains. Some competitions will conduct a jump off.
