The uprights and horizontal bar should be positioned close to the mat. The uprights should be far enough apart so that the bar does not touch the upright poles. It should only rest on the prongs. A good way to position the bar is to place your little finger between the bar and the upright.
The height of the bar is always measured from the centre, to the top of the middle of the bar.
The athlete has a successful attempt when they clear the bar without knocking it off the prongs.
The athlete has a failed attempt if:
- They knock the bar off the prongs
- The athlete jumps from two feet
- The athlete gains assistance by touching the landing bags as they jump.
For events where the scissor technique must be used, the athlete will have a failed attempt if any other technique is used.
An athlete’s event is over if they have 3 consecutive failures. These failures do not have to be at the same height.
